Deutsche Nickel GmbH is a world class company in the production of Nickel and Nickel-Alloy materials. The Deutsche Nickel GmbH's origins date from the year 1839. At that time, Nickel was being smelted on the Iserlohn Heath for harness and carriage hardware, fabricated from Nickel-Silver. Today's Deutsche Nickel GmbH was born in a period of burgeoning growth and booming industrialisation at the end of the 19. century. In 1867 the town of Schwerte was connected to the railway network – an important consideration in locating the present extensive production facilities on the current site. From the start, the links between Deutsche Nickel GmbH and Schwerte were close. As early as 1872, Nickel Alloy semis were being shipped from Schwerte to customers throughout the world. In 1878, Theodor Fleitmann, the founder of Deutsche Nickel GmbH, discovered what was then a revolutionary breakthrough and still forms the basis for entire Nickel processing industry – by adding Magnesium, he succeeded in making hot Nickel suitable for rolling and forging. His next R&D success was to roll-bond-clad Iron plate with Nickel, Copper and their alloys. This was a unique process at that time and remains the basis for modern cladding techniques. Since 1992, Deutsche Nickel GmbH has been certified as a supplier of semis. The certification to DIN EN ISO 9001 was gained in 2004, as well as to DIN EN ISO 16949 for automotive applications. Another milestone in the company's quality assurance strategy was the ecological management certification to DIN EN ISO 14001 in 2009. As a result, the quality assurance system is found throughout the entire administration and production.It represents ultimate quality, officially and independently certified.

Schon damals wurde auf der Iserlohner Heide Nickel verhüttet, sowie Reit- und Fahrgeschirr aus Nickelsilber hergestellt. In die Zeit stürmischer Entwicklungen und boomender Industrialisierung, gegen Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts, fällt auch die Geburtsstunde der Deutsche Nickel GmbH: 1867 erhielt Schwerte einen eigenen Bahnanschluss - ein entscheidender Grund, an dieser Stelle eine ausgedehnte Fertigungsstätte zu errichten.Von Anfang an war die Entwicklung der Stadt Schwerte auf das engste mit der Deutsche Nickel GmbH verbunden. Schon seit 1872 finden Halbzeuge aus Nickel und Nickellegierungen von Schwerte aus ihren Weg zu den Kunden in aller Welt.1878 war es die bahnbrechende Erfindung des Unternehmensgründers der Deutsche Nickel GmbH, die noch heute als Grundlage für die gesamte nickelverarbeitende Industrie gilt: Theodor Fleitmann gelang es durch den Zusatz von Magnesium, Nickel im glühenden Zustand walz- und schmiedbar zu machen. Sein nächster Forschungserfolg war die Walzplattierung von Eisenblechen mit Nickel, Kupfer und deren Legierungen. Das war zu dieser Zeit einzigartig in der Welt und bildet bis heute die Grundlage moderner Plattierverfahren.Bereits seit 1992 ist die Deutsche Nickel GmbH als Lieferant von Halbzeugen zertifiziert. 2004 erfolgte die Zertifizierung sowohl gemäß DIN EN ISO 9001, als auch erstmalig gemäß DIN ISO TS 16949 für automotive Anwendungen. Für eine langfristige Sicherung der Unternehmens- grundlagen wurde 2009 die Umweltnorm gemäß DIN EN ISO 14001 erfolgreich eingeführt und zertifiziert. Auf allen Ebenen der Organisation und Produktion findet das Qualitäts- und Umweltsicherungssystem seine Anwendung.
